Sawyer Vale Eyes Sports Broadcasting Career
By Madison Shaw
Sawyer Vale’s eyes light up when he talks about sports. A sophomore at the University of Colorado Boulder, Vale is double-majoring in journalism and communications with plans to pursue a career in sports broadcasting.
Vale’s interest in sports developed later than the rest of his family. Although he grew up surrounded by sports fans, he did not begin participating until middle school. Running cross country and track in high school sparked a deeper interest in both athletics and sports media.
He dipped his toes into sports media in his late high school years. After seeing a tweet from a YouTuber he followed seeking writers for a new website, Vale applied and was accepted. He contributed written content for the site before stepping away due to school and work commitments. “I’m not doing it too much anymore, just because I’ve gotten busier as school has started and because I work another job,” Vale said.
Now, Value spends his free time playing pickup basketball at The Rec on campus and working at Pedestrian Shops on Pearl Street. He hopes to build a future in sports broadcasting and understands the competitive nature of the field. “Social media is another great way to get involved,” Vale said. “It’s about consistent posting or uploading over time.”
